Before Google unveiled Veo 3, DeepMind had already raised the bar with the December 2024 release of Veo 2, positioning itself directly against OpenAI’s Sora, which launched on 9 December 2024. Now, the tech giant has announced that Veo 3, the latest iteration of its AI-driven video-generation technology, is rolling out to additional markets and devices.
Available through the Google AI Ultra subscription tier, which costs $249.99/month, Veo 3 will be accessible to Ultra users in the UK from today, bringing the total number of supported countries to 73, with further expansions under way. Under the Google AI Ultra plan, subscribers receive unrestricted access to Veo 3’s advanced video-creation capabilities, whether they are working within Flow, Google’s desktop- and web-based platform designed for AI filmmakers, or the Gemini mobile app.
Meanwhile, Pro subscribers in these regions continue to enjoy a more limited experience; they receive a 10-pack of trial video generations in the Gemini app, as well as restricted access to Veo 3 within Flow. As of today, Pro-tier users will also be able to tap into Veo 3’s functionality directly from the Gemini mobile app.
Beyond simply extending Veo 3’s geographical reach, Google is placing renewed emphasis on transparency and provenance in AI-generated media. All content produced by Google’s generative AI models now carries SynthID watermark. This digital signature serves as a forensic marker, enabling downstream tools to determine whether a piece of content was machine generated. About a week ago, Google introduced its SynthID Detector to a cohort of early testers, with plans to broaden access in the coming weeks.
In an additional effort to make AI-generated videos more readily identifiable, Google is also instituting a visible watermark on all videos created via Veo 3, except for those produced by Ultra subscribers within Flow. This decision reflects a growing industry consensus that clearly labelling AI outputs is essential to maintaining trust and combating misinformation.
